<description><![CDATA[ The Trout Gallery offers education outreach programs (related to its museum exhibitions) to a wide variety of audiences, including programs designed for foreign language classes that visit exhibits. We are seeking a Spanish-speaking student assistant for the 2008-09 academic year to work with the curator of education at the gallery and Spanish language professors. The student assistant will be responsible for planning visits to the gallery as part of a project called "Un Día en el Museo." The student assistant will develop and present programs to elementary and intermediate Spanish classes that provide students with the opportunity to practice their language skills in a museum environment. Duties also include contacting professors from the Spanish department, prepare activities, and lead classes based on material in current exhibitions, and prepare teaching materials appropriate to their level (usually 101, 104, 108, and 116), and scheduling class visits to the gallery. Work averages about 80-100 hrs./semester and will vary weekly depending on the number of Spanish classes scheduled. Humanities and/or social science majors preferred (American studies, anthropology, art history, education, history, sociology, Spanish, studio art and other related fields) and TA and/or Spanish teaching experience. The program includes the latest techniques and resources for assisting those wanting to quit tobacco and helps individuals develop a unique quit plan, coping techniques and stress management skills. Sadlers quit rate at Quit Day is typically 100 percent.
