ALUMNI NEWS
Well, we don’t exactly have a “system” for updates from alums (and we’re working on the central IT folks to allow “live” news posts on the website, but until then, I can say it has been my pleasure to be in touch with a number of you out there. Here’s what I know, in no particular order, and with no claim to accuracy:
Nicole Subik is working at Colby-Sawyer College after being “nearly killed” by a production of The Sound of Music that she directed the year before. Andy Kirtland was acting with the Heritage Theatre Company in Washington, DC and is now based out of Baltimore. Also in the Washington Theatre News: David Snider—Producing Artistic Director of the Young Playwright’s Theater in DC has been elected President of the League of Washington Theatres. In Washington, but otherwise engaged is Vlad Olievschi, who is finishing an MBA and MA in International Relations at George Washington University. Sarah Hutt wrote, produced and directed a documentary for the History Channel titled Engineering and Empire: Russia, which ran last season. Megan Lantzy was in touch as part of working with the Phoenix Theatre Ensemble in New York, and has also recently worked with the Lincoln Center Theater. Also in New York, Kim Kalish did an NYU film based on a Christopher Durang play and also directed a High School production of South Pacific. Janet Zarecor’s play The Chronological Secrets of Tim premiered recently by the Impetuous Theatre Group, which Josh Sherman serves as Managing Director. Josh is also still with Columbia Artists’ Management in the City. Adam Young was in touch from Ohio: he is married and working for McGraw-Hill as an editor. Maryanne Olson is Literary Manager and Casting Director for the Marin Theatre Company in the Bay Area of California. Ashley Smith was dialect coach on "My Children! My Africa!" at Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago in April 2007. He has been coaching at the Dallas Theater Center as well. And, he just finished playing Mr. Collins in Stan Wojewodski's production of "Pride and Prejudice" at Dallas Theater Center this past fall. Ashley continues to paint. His oils can be viewed at http://web.mac.com/ashpaints/Recent grads Michael McElroy and Sarah Gafgen are working in the Philly area: Mike as an intern at the Arden Theatre and Sarah as the recently named Assistant to the Artistic Director and the Hedgerow Theatre. They join a growing “mafia” of recent Dickinsonians making waves in Philly including Natalie Diener who is Literary manager for the Tactile Theatre Company, Scott McPheeters, Katie Chick and a bunch of others. A different generation has also been back to Carlisle: Jay Adler dropped off his daughter who is a student now at Dickinson; Fred Morsell performed his Presenting Mr. Frederick Douglas in Carlisle’s courthouse as part of event commemorating the placement of a historical marker in Carlisle honoring Douglas. He will be returning to perform the role of Prospero in the Mermaid Players Production of The Tempest this winter. In Chicago, Deb Hearst won a Jeffrey award in Neil Labute’s Fat Pig. Our spies tell us that Phil Wills has been training and working as a professional wrestling referee.
