Dickinson College
Welcome to the Fulbright American
Studies Institute website. This innovative summer program
will provide eighteen scholars from eighteen different countries
with an understanding of the "U.S. Political Economy and the
Global Economic System." The Institute is hosted by Dickinson
College , an institution consistently recognized on a national
level for its long-standing commitment to and excellence in
global education. This program is sponsored by grant funding
from the U.S. Department of State's Study of the U.S. Branch
(link to http://exchanges.state.gov/education/amstudy/)
which seeks to promote a better understanding of the people,
institutions, and culture of the United States among foreign
students, teachers and scholars whose professional focus is
American society and culture, past and present.
The theme of the Institute is "Striking the Balance: Government and Market in the U.S. Economy" and participants will engage this topic through academic sessions and study tours of Washington, D.C., New York City, and New Orleans. Academic sessions will focus on topics such as U.S. economic and business culture, economic policy-making institutions and processes, domestic U.S. macroeconomic trends, trade policy, development assistance, and more. These sessions, combined with visits to policy-making institutions, will serve to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of economic policy within the U.S. and its place and role within the larger global context.
