STATE, SOCIETY and CULTURE in the UNITED STATES

Dickinson College
Welcome to the Study of the United States Institute: State,
Society and Culture in the United States website. This innovative
summer program will provide 21 visiting South Asian undergraduate
student leaders from Bangladesh,
India and Pakistan with an understanding of political and
social institutions, history and service organizations in
the United States. The Institute is being hosted by Dickinson
College, an institution consistently recognized on a national
level for its long-standing excellence in global education.
The program was developed by and is sponsored through a cooperative
agreement with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau
of Educational and Cultural Affairs, for the purposes of expanding
U.S. engagement with governments and people of South Asia
to promote economic growth, education, and political freedom.
The
Institute consists of several parts: four weeks of academic
seminars at Dickinson College; extended study tours in New
York City and Washington D.C.; day-trips to Baltimore, Philadelphia,
Gettysburg and other local sites of interest; and many opportunities
to engage in community service learning activities and community
events. We intend this website to serve as a continuing venue
in which participants in the program can maintain contact
with one another, as well as Dickinson College faculty and
staff, for years to come. We hope that it will provide the
opportunity for us all to engage in the important, enduring
dialogue which Dickinson aims to create.

participants should take the pre-program survey: http://egoals.state.gov/Surveys/index50.cfm
