STATE AND SOCIETY:
July 21 - August 21, 2003
Dickinson College &
Washington D.C.
Welcome
to the Young Ambassadors Study of the United States Institute
website. This innovative summer program will provide 26 visiting
fellows from 13 countries in the Middle East and North Africa
with an understanding of “State and Society” in
the United States. The Institute is being hosted by Dickinson
College, an institution
consistently recognized on a national
level for its long-standing excellence in global education.
The program is sponsored by grant funding from the U.S. Department
of State’s Middle
East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).
MEPI, an initiative managed by the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs
of the U.S. State Department, has a mission to expand U.S.
engagement with governments and people of the Middle East to
promote economic growth, education, and political freedom.
The Young Ambassadors Institute was developed and is co-administered
by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the State
Department.
The
Institute consists of two parts: A four-week academic seminar
at Dickinson College from July 21 - August 15;
and a one-week
study tour in Washington D.C. from August 16 - August 21. We
intend this website to serve as a continuing venue in which
participants in the program can maintain contact with
one another, as well
as Dickinson College faculty and staff, for years to come.
We hope that it will provide the opportunity for us all
to engage
in the important, enduring dialogue which Dickinson aims to
create.
