Opening Convocation - August 31, 2003On Sunday, August 31, 2003, the College officially began the 2003-2004 academic year. The Academic Procession of faculty, administrators, and the members of the class of 2004 assembled in Britton Plaza and proceeded to the John Dickinson Campus, where President Durden convened the college. A number of academic achievements were recognized, including the Presidential Scholarships, the Senior and Junior sophisters, and the Shuman Prize winners. A national representative of Alpha Lambda Delta, the freshman honorary society, presented the Dickinson chapter with the Order of the Torch. Student Senate President Lisa Bowman '04 spoke, and President Durden addressed the convocation as part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Old West. At the conclusion of the opening ceremonies, the new students processed up the stone steps of Old West to sign into the College.
