This style guide is intended to be used as a reference for specific words and phrases, not as a substitute for The Associated Press Stylebook or the American Heritage Dictionary, the standard style references used for college publications. Since we are an academic institution we have a responsibility to follow proper rules and to maintain consistency throughout our array of publications. Clarifications and exceptions to the standard references are noted below. This style guide also includes answers to some common questions about usage and punctuation that are based on AP Style recommendations.
